Subject: White spots on fry in fry tank 8/12/2011, 12:10 pm
Hey guys, I just noticed this morning that my 20 gallon fry tank with like 40 fry in it total, have little white spots on them. Its mainly only a couple fish out of the whole bunch, but I can clearly see little white spots. I did a water change this morning and turned up the temp and added salt. This tank has never been mixed with any other tank, so Im a little unsure how it just pops up. I did a video to put up here as well, although I dont know if you will see it as they are still very small.

Can't really see anything from the video. I think what you're doing should work for them though.

On small fry fungus is very common. Normally when my fry are free swimming they get a bath in methylene blue. I do a very low dose but they stay in that until the water turns clear (50% water changes a day).

Not sure , but from what you say in the video , it sounds like the tank wasn't cycled ! You said you ran it for 2 days with nothing in it . If , in fact , it wasn't a cycled tank , then your fry guys are being stressed by the water condition. Salt and Heat may very well help them . Just my 2 cents ,, Ray

I use Hydrogen Peroxide at a dose of 1 ML per 5 gallons in all my fry tanks with water changes 3 times a week. This will not hurt the fry or eggs. I use this from the egg tumbler til they are in a bigger grow out tank. I never get fungus on the eggs even when they are dead.

Thank you guys for taking a look. I knew you wouldnt be able to see anything from the video, but thought it would give a better perspective to what the tank looked like and what its running with. As for the cycled tank, Im not sure, cause both filters had run in a previous baby tank for about 2 weeks and the tank itself and gravel had all been used, all just washed out with tap water. The only thing new in the tank was the water and fish themselves, so I dont know if that helps with cycling, although, to be honest, I thought it did.
Anyhow, the heat and Aquarium salt thing worked as almost all the fish look great. Ive been cleaning it about twice a week and watching them closely. I will do my best to keep you guys updated and thanks again for all the advice. Jon
