| I see we have a purest . Hey to each his own. I have a few of these guys. Hybrids are generally ok imo but with proper keeping, meaning if they breed not to Introduce to people if not properly told what they are and explain why hybrids are looked down on. I know flowerhorns are hybrids and somewhere down the line someone has slipped up. It's the responsibility that needs to be kept in order to not let things get out of control. Kinda like buying a sports car for your teenage sibling vs a compact. Thanks for posting your top ten . It is pretty easy to see where people stand with this list. There are fish out there that i refuse to keep do to cruel ways of getting them the way they are(tattooed danios, tailless blood parrots, etc.) I fell in love with flowerhorns when I got my first one on accident. I purchased 4 jds and picked out 3 an let the store clerk net the 4th while I ran and got some food. Needless to say the 4th fish was a fh. So I kept him as a wet pet and absolutely love him.

Fish I wouldn't keep: Anything that has teeth and would bite me. To me no fish are boring. Google search the names of the ones you don't know. You might see something you like. I love community fish and goldfish. I approve of your list.

| Wow.... this statement alone makes me wonder how you could still keep them if you knew the answers to the questions! - Quote :

after you learn the answers to these questions hopefully you change your mind.. Anyway I'll still be at Animal Jungle and I won't hold your fish preferences against you! I can sit down and hang with anyone and who knows maybe I can set you straight! JB

| Shea check out Cichlid-forum.com they have a very large library of fish (cichlids) however if you see a name of a cichlid they usually have photos and a summary of keeping it! JB | |

| Oh I don't mean hybrids are ok to breed and sell , I know the confusion they bring to the hobby ,but there is a reason why there is no governing of the hobby in this aspect. I would much rather breed pures(my ebjd line) but it happens. All I'm saying is as long as it is properly documented the hobby would be better off. I know fh don't exist in the wild but most fish in the hobby now have been bred in aquaria and not in nature. Meaning they are not wild caught and factors come into play. Yes yellow labs are found in the wild but most of them in our tanks have never seen lake Malawi . There are two sides to the fence and I sit on the post. | |

| unfortunately there are flowerhorns in the wild and they are reproducing.... Dr. Anton Lamboj documented findings of colonies of them in the wild.... they were obviously dumped and have taken over some lakes in S.E. Asia. This is where it gets really ugly.... Then again I know folks that have seen yellow labs and other cichlids up on down the rivers in San Marcos from college kids dumping tanks in the river...etc.. JB | |

JB I see where the purest can be mad or a bit upset with these fish, but as fish keepers its our responsibility to dispose of unwanted fish the proper way. You can't charge some one for killing someone just because they own a gun. Dumping fish into habitats that they don't belong is a BIG no no in my book. I would just simply clove oil them then bag em. Wow the things people do to the ecosystems. Wow.

| Either trade them in or give them away. Look at what snakeheads are doing in Florida, or what Pacu are doing in lakes where people have planted them due to tons of vegetation. They are overtaking ecosystems. | |

| 1. Tiger barbs! i swear they're made of caffeine 2. Botias (angelicus are beautiful) 3. opaline gouramis 4. blue rams 5. ebdj (i'll get them someday) 6. same with fronts ^ 7. plecos are pretty amazing, even the "ugly" ones 8. i need some exotic plecos... L018 gold nugget, L240 vampire, L46 zebra 9. discus (I'll have to wait untill i'm rich, i wanna go all out with these) 10. arrowana (i'll have a pool of these someday)
i feel i need to take a stance on this hybrid issue. i'll read up on it whilst i refuse to sleep! EDIT: well, after reading for a bit, i've decided that it's a shoddy situation that is headed in the wrong direction with the brake lines cut. parrots are mutilated abominations, FH and others can be mistaken for a parent species and bred back into the gene pool, discus and livebearers are mostly hybrids that no one seems to complain about (aren't grey areas fun?!?) people ruin things... it what we do best

| Glabe the livebrears and discus you mentioned are not hybrids. They are mutations. Hybrids are crossing of two different spieces. | |
