| Ornate12 showed me his pond plant baskets he uses in his big pond. As we talked we decided they would make super fry growout baskets inside any tank... the video below is the large size.. 11x11/6 they actually float to the rim of the basket, but i would recommend using a little sytro to keep lip above 1" from the water.. you could keep the fry in there for quiet a while unless you have a large quantity of fry. the sides and bottom holes are pretty small so fry should not be able to get out of them... they come in three sizes.. smallest about 4x4x2 click picture for Video [img] [/img] Sides: Bottom:

| What size fry will this basket contain? My two-year-old whacked my laptop display the other day - I can't make out ANY fine detail.. Do you get jumpers in or out, ornate? How far above the surface do you set the lip of the basket? | |

| These baskets are sold in many sizes. They do have them at Home Depot and Lowes. I buy usually on line. Look in the pond sections, used for water plants. They do float right to the top, like Cajun said , put a couple of strips of styo at the level you want them to float. You can't beat the price!! | |

| ryan, i put close up pics of the sides and bottom... on the sides a round colored toothpick barely goes thru it, and a little more looser on the bottom.... small fry could definitly go into them...

| This seems like it would work really well. the only concern I would have is that when feeding your fry the BBS would likely fit through the holes and it might make things a little harder in terms of making sure the fry can eat. I suppose if you had a light above the basket the shrimp would head towards that anyways and stay within feeding range for the fry. | |

Maybe line the bottom and up the walls just a bit with a fine mesh, then add substrate to keep in the little guys? | |

| I wonder if I could even coax holding females into the basket rather than trying to net them.. | |

| the little holes might be big for fry unless they were 3 weeks old , they are like the size of an eraser head when born and a hungry preditor fish could definately suck them out from there i think. | |

| Currently I have 25, week old fry that are in one of these containers. I have line the container with white filter material that is working good. They are in the tank and getting the circulation and heat. The white material I'm able to see fish well and watch the feedings. The fish are almost big enough for me to remove the material, in about another week. I just bought more online tonight. | |

| Oh well having a mesh around it can make all the difference , I was thinking..without it..little fry can be snack food . | |

| yes I don't know if I explained it correctly . It is working well for me. Like Cajun said, everyone can modify depending on the fish species. Different netting etc For me it was important just to keep them in a tank without having to buy more tanks!! | |
