im a little upset...

i have had these two rock bass for over a year and have gotten very attached to them. my husband came home today to let me know that we have to get rid of them because since we have a new landlord, they now say that we cant have tanks over 20 gallons, and 20 gallons is nowhere NEAR big enough for these fish. i cant let them go... argh so aggrivated.... they wont even let us get by for 6 more months till our house is built... sorry i know not on the topic but had to vent

don't you have someone you can take the tank and the fish to? Like set it up at a friends house but you take care of them?

If you liked closer to me, I'd foster them for you.

the only person that i actually know up here has a tank with two bluegills in it, which im sure would be fine to put them together, (she doesnt have room for another actual tank) but she is going to be moving to virginia in a couple of months. i was going to take her tank and her fish from her. im just mad right now... sorry

no need to say you're sorry, I totally understand. I told my g/f once if someone every robs my house, let them take the tv's computer, movies, cd's etc, but they better not even think about touching my tank!

good luck finding a foster parent for your fish, one would think the new landlord could grandfather your tank and fish in since they were there before he was.

im finding out that the new landlord is an a**. you would think since we would be here for less than 6 months (though we will finish the lease) that he wouldnt worry about it. his response was we already had two units with overly large tanks break and ruin the floor, we dont want to risk another one. which i understand.... i do. but we are on the ground floor and im home all the time... i take good care of my fishy friends, i mean i guess i could get two 20 gallons and set them up in that... one in each, but that hardly seems fair

I feel the same way, cwillis. And no need to bother the dog, either, he don't have a mean bone in his body.

lol my dogs would just show everyone where the fine china is in return for a belly rub

oh and on the positive side. the landlord said that he would be nice and let me keep the 30 gallon with the goldfish in it..... so thats on but 30 gallons still isnt big enough for the bass

Id tell him to shove it up his you know what. It should be grandfathered in period. Unless it was in the contract you signed he shouldn't be able to force you.

i know im going to hang on and fight it.... i guess i just panicked. but you can see by my avatar shes a really pretty fish, and real personable too

ask if you could give him a security deposit. Kinda like an insurance policy if the tank leaks. Some landlords will do that for dogs.

you kn ow that might not be a bad idea, offering him a deposit agenst tank damage. i will go by and talk to him in the morning and see if he would be willing to accept that. i really enjoy these fish even though they are not active and mostly just sit in the rocks (except at feeding times.) lol if he would take that deal i would really love to find something else to put in the tank with them. thank you for the idea and ill let yall know tomorrow what the landlord says

Maybe you can tank the tank down and put them in a large rubbermaid type water trough /tote that is not breakable. I know you wouldn't be able to see the fish as well, but it is much safer than the aquarium as far as breaking goes?

yea if the landlord doesnt agree to take a deposit in case of damage than thats what im gonna do. i cant bear to "get rid of" these fish

Evans Mills? That's right outside Ft. Drum, Right? If you don't get any solutions let me know. I have lots of contacts and friends up there. I was stationed at Drum for 10 yrs. I know several business owners and friends up there from my sports connections! I haven't heard "Evans Mills" in a long time!

The best advice I've seen posted is to review your lease agreement. That agreement is a contract and not to be altered unless both parties agree. Tell the SOB where to go! Please let us know if there are any clauses within your lease that would allow him to impose that restriction or if he's imposing a new one. When the new owner bought the property, he bought the liabilities as well as the assets. I love taking on the bad guys...

ok so i reviewed our lease agreement. it has NOTHING in it reguarding tank size it just refers to housing handbook in it. i have not received a housing handbook. so i went up and talked to them and offered a deposit agenst tank breakage and they agreed to a 100.00 deposit that will be returned on termination of the lease as long as there is no water damage. they came in and took a picture of where it is in the house and the condition of the floor and walls around it so they can compare when i leave..... so yea i get to keep my fishies yippeeee

once again thank yall for letting me vent and for everyone offering to help me find a foster if necessary and all ideas as to how i can keep them

Charge them interest on the deposit then.. they deserve nothing!

Also if you have renters insurance that might be a way to get around it and not have to pay anything. Just a thought. Im really sorry I would just die if I had to get rid of my tank! Good luck!
