| So i have this 29 gal for a QT tank, had a crack in the bottom corner plastic rim. I fixed it and now the tank wont sit flush on the metal stand (open middle stand), i put cardboard under one corner and it is now flush. Will this work or will the tank stress and crack? any ideas? thank you | |

| i dont think u will have any problem with a 29. if u just want to be safe, i would go to home depot and get a board of the pink insalation foam. looks like this | |

| If I am understanding your description of the issue at hand correctly without seeing in person the un evenness I say the cardboard would work temporarily might work forever, might not even need anything under it but if you'd like to really be safe or have a doubt of it's structural stability. It is cardboard that could over time get wet or the weight may press it thinner than causing the tank to crack "In my personal opinion or action I might take to salvage the tank make a solid piece for the bottom,or for the stand and use a thick folded up blanket or some sort of padding to sit on to relieve any stress when filled,The pink Foam Board is a real good idea as well .And or I have a 55 gal setup that is on an uneven dresser I was worried about due to the light shining through the center small gap due to the downward curve in dresser I used "shims"also found at any local Home depot,Lowes they are used for windows and doors being installed to level and square up. They are pretty cheap made of wood or plastic. Hope this helps cause It would be a sad tragic day to loose a tank. "Not to mention 29 gallons of water would be a pain in the you know to clean up" When setting up all tanks it is key to insure the levelness because any minor stress be it just a little to a whole lot could be potential disaster I would say "Be safe than sorry" "Happy Fish Keeping" | |

| This is just me speaking .... but I would never prop just a single corner of a tank itself. It adds added stress to the tank.
Instead, as ilicurtisili mentioned, get you a sheet of foam backer board and cut to length. The weight of the tank will distribute out and even things up. Highly recommend this.

| This might call for a little more research, I was always under the impression that foam should only be used for acrylic tanks and not recommend for glass tanks. Once the foam compresses under the frame it starts pushing up on the glass, It's been awhile since I read up on this but doesn't hurt to do a lil research. Maybe the foam under the glass would compress too but then again glass tanks are designed with only the frame touching the stand so you might run into trouble if the foam starts pushing up on the glass. Or it might be a good idea to put foam strips under the frame only. There is huge debate on this subject. | |

| Interesting ... never heard of it that way before. I do know that it is common practice to use when dealing with a not so level tank. May have to go back and see what others are now saying about it.
If it makes you feel any better, I know several keepers that use it and also have never heard of any failures while using it.

| Slap me later if it don't work buuut I would leave it alone. Have built many glass tanks and the plastic rim has really no funtion other than looks and to cover edge of glass pane. There's not a lot of pressure in a 29 gallon and if you feel a need use the recommened wood shime as mentioned above. lol | |

| Dan has a good point, not a lot of pressure in a 29g tank I really dont think he will run into problem. I had a 30g tank with 3-4 inches hanging off a small table on each side never had any problems. Only reson I brough it up was because I did some searching online when I tryed building a stand (never finished it) every where I read recomended not to put foam directly under a glass tank but instead put the foam down and then a peice of board and then set your tank but in Fishhomies case would not help him. I don't know any fish keepers and have never used foam myself so if James and Dan have real world experience in this subject and it works it comes down to "if it ain't broke don't fix it" type of deal if it works it works. | |
