| I just picked up a couple of venustus and i dont really know what i just got into, can anyone help me? They are about an inch right now and i know they can get good color but i am worried about their temperment. Has anyone had any of these, and are there multiple kinds? Any info would be great thank you. | |

| Nimbochromis venustus, commonly abbreviated to venustus, is a Haplochromine cichlid native to Lake Malawi in Africa. It prefers the deeper regions of Lake Malawi where it hunts smaller juvenile cichlids. It is related to Nimbochromis livingstonii.
It is a popular freshwater aquarium fish which grows between 8 and 12 inches in length. Due to its size and aggressive nature, it should be kept in aquariums of around 75 gallons no less then 55 gallons. Keep in capacity with other large freshwater fish such as parrot cichlid and other large Lake Malawi and Lake Tanganyika cichlids. It prefers rocky environments, and a well kept specimen may live for 12 years. The venustus typically has a yellow and black spotted colouration males have a hint of blue on the head and fins. | |

| I would think the EBJD would do something before the Venustus. Just monitor the situation you should be ok. | |

| I've had both in my tank at the same time before. The Venustus was a fiesty litle guy. Fun to watch. They went at it alll the time. But eventually they learned to cope with one another so there was not any more problems. | |
