Alright, to be honest..dont know much about planted tanks. Here what I would like to do. Feel free to tell me how stupid I maybe

I want to do two planted tanks a 30gal and 75 gal

The 30 gal would have community fish (not sure what) and right now has heater, sand bottom, bio wheel filter

75 gal would have 4 bio wheel filters, 4 media filters, 4 carbon filters, has a normal and blue light, canister filter rated for a 120 gal. Currently has two powerheads, which will soon be replaced with pumps and air stones..powerheads are just to much of a pain. Will have a single arowana in it

Like I said I dont know jack, but on both I was thinking of putting Dwarf baby tears to line the bottom and swords and other plants to fill it.

Open to all suggestions, corrections, and advice

First step before plants should be to take stock in what you have and what you are willing to invest (if anything)

What I mean by that is... if you have 54watts of light over your 75 gallon tank then stick with plants that would need lower light to grow.

If you are willing to have say 2 54 watt lights (in the 6.5-10k range) then you can look at plants that grow in a low to medium light setting.

Sticking with lower light plants has its benefits the main one being that the need for CO2 and fertilization is not as rigorous. So your Java Ferns and other commonly used low light plants work great for most people starting out.

If you want to go with a higher light setup (the WPG --watts per gallon-- rule is outdated but still heavily used) then it opens the door to many more plants but as you might expect it also includes the work of adding in things like CO2 and fertilization.

Great thing about going planted is you can start low and work your way up. I would research dry fertilization and either DIY CO2 or Pressurized system if you want to go with a heavy plant setup.

As far a filtration goes the only thing that I would recommend is a Pre Filter and this is only to aid in not having to clean little bits of plants from your filter every week. There are many plants that have needle like leaves that will plug your filter in no time haha.

The use of air stones is not completely bad in a planted tank but keep in mind that the main things plants need to grow are Light(starts the whole process)/CO2(food) Macro/Micro Nutrients (Vitamins for plants) so if you add lots of oxygen to the tank you will in effect help to gas off CO2 and thereby remove the plants "food" a calm water surface is recommend for planted tanks epically if you use an outside means of producing CO2 due to the fact that you will end up wasting most of the gas otherwise. Power heads are fine as long as the current is contained underwater.

This is a little introduction to plants it is fairly simple as I said in the beginning pick what you want your end product to be and look into what it would take to get there then choose if your willing to invest the time and money in it.

I can tell you for me it is very rewarding because plants grow much quicker then fish and I don't feel bad if one dies haha.
