ok so about 7 months ago i noticed this open red sore..the fish acted totally normal would eat well and everything looked good but the sore....Then about 4 months later (sore never got any bigger)he started acting sick and within 24 hrs he was dead...

If he was fine for that long with the sore it was probably something else that killed him.
What was he acting like when he got sick?

I once had a pleco with red sores from scrapping against decor.It would go away and come back.maybe the stress finally got to him from whatever it was

I would tend to lean towards another illness being what caused his death. The sore was probably an injury and something else killed him.

He just went to the bottom and was laying on the gravel and was dead within 24 hrs..Now there is a chinese algae eater in this tank that has left very slight marks on the tail fins of some of the fish before ...But i dont think he did it but i guess its always possible

Chinese algae eater's are notorious for nibbling on fish......
