Kenyi Cichlid

I had kenyi cichlids for well over 3 months. They were very happy go lucky fish (so to speak). I had one that turned from blue to a very pale yellow. I had read that the females stay blue (unless with males, then they can turn bright yellow to blend in). And the males turned bright yellow. I had asked the pet stores if they had ever heard of a kenyi turning pale yellow. And none of them had. So, I was wondering for future information, if anyone knows why that kenyi turned pale yellow? Thanks.

a pic would eb nice but i have never seen a bight yellow kenyi male in person.

Sorry, I no longer have the fish. My other two that I had stayed the blue color. I was just wondering if anyone knew why it turned pale yellow. It was still acting normal and eating just fine as well. Thanks

well every male i have seen for the kenyi have been a pale yellow. well i guess pale is a loose term. most i have seen look like this

That is a lot brighter than my kenyi turned. It was real pale, almost like it was sick. But never once acted abnormal. That is a pretty male kenyi. I love the kenyi's, they always act crazy/hyper.

All my Kenyii males turn various shades of yellow depending on where they are on the pecking order . If I removed a "pale" yellow one and put it in a tank without a dominate male , it would darken up to a nice yellow with faint dark vertical bars. If on the other hand , I left it in the tank , the dominate male would soon turn his attention on him and harass it to death.

Ok, so the males can turn a pale yellow. Everything I read just said that males turn bright yellow. And nothing said that they could change any color of yellow. Thank you. I'll be getting more kenyi's soon. Thank you again.
