| Hi Everyone I saw a picture on Aquabid under the catagory " other fish " I just thought this picture was cool. I wasn't sure how to post it here, but check it out. I'm not familar with this species, I have kept the red ones years ago. To bad that snakeheads are not available anymore. | |

I thought that they were very good. and except for the head they ar almost all meat. - Holey Rock of Texas wrote:

That is infact true. They hit very hard one time, then you have to let them take is for a second or two before setting the hook. If you miss the hook set they might come back to the very same spot 30 - 45 minutes later because the are so territorial.

| i know they are an awesome species.. but i can understand why they put the large snakeheads on illegal list, but WHY would they do that to the dwarf snakeheads. many years back i owned a pair of orientaliss snakeheads.. They produced a few batch of fry. I eventually sold and shipped to someone in Michigan. I wish i could get ahold of another pair, or have they all been destroyed?????? Anyone know of any available, please let me know.... A pic of them in a ten gallon tank: | |

P.s. Mayan cichlids are great to eat! The wildlife commission think that there out break is from someone importing them and then releasing them in small ponds so they could breed. This would allow for a local harvest and they would not have to pay high import fees and still charge a premium to buyers.

| I usually keep up with what fish are illegal o keep. I had no ideal the Snakeheads are in the canals of Florida. That's a shame . When I had mine in Calif several years ago, I recall that they were rather boring to keep. They needed the live food , and had huge appitites! They grow extremely fast. | |
