Welcome to The Fishbox. My opinion is bare bottoms are best for breeding purposes or QT . Gravel IME is better for helping filtration as beneficial bacteria will grow in it. If you go with a planted tank I prefer potting soil topped with pea gravel. It all depends on what you are using the tank for, what species and preference.

welcome, BB tanks are for breeding or q tanks. unless your raising some fish and you want really prestine conditions.

But if I am breeding ( African Cichlids for me) I will have sand.
