| Since I'm on a roll I will post some info on another one of my new Fav SA cichlid the Uaru. Other names. Waroo, Triangle cichlid, Found : South America, in the middle and lower Rio Negro in Brazil and Guyana. In their native habitat, Uaru are a food source for the people along the Amazon river basin Temp: 77-83F Size: 7"-12" Ph: 6-7.5 Tank size: 80 Gal for 2. A larger tank is needed for a group. Tank set up: They need a large tank use Wood as the main decor as they like to bit at it. the Substrae does not matter much for them. Don't put in a planted tank unless you want all your plants to be dinner. These guys need Greens in their diet so veggie flakes are a must. But they also need some protien in their diet. Food: Bloodworms, good cichlid pellets and veggies or veggie flakes. They are not picky and are aggressive feeders. Will bit and push other fish around when food hits the water. Water: They need clean water because they can get HITH if water quality is not good. They also do better in soft water. Breeding: This can be hard. Sexing forget about it. I don't think there is any way to tell them apart unless you see them spawn females will be a bit smaller. Like Discus they feed the fry a mucus that comes off the skin. This is not as important for Uaru Fry as it is for Discus. Uarus can live with out the parents. Color: When young they look like a leaf dull silver brown color with a pattern all over the body. Once they are 3-4" they start to get the adult color of a rich tan color with a large Black mark on the side of the body. They also have a green shine to the head and fins. Tankmates: Other large Cichlids. These are Smart stong fish but yet peacful with smaller fish. They can hold there own with other large fish. Oscars, Severums, Geo, Plecos, tetras, Corys, and Jake dempseys. Temperment: These guys are peaceful for a large Cichlid but can be bossy. They are social fish. Best tank mates are other uarus. They love to be with other Uarus. You can keep just 2 with out problems. and you will see them interact with eachother. If you have a large tank 100gal+ you could have more. they are a schooling cichlid that live in large groups in the wild. Here are mine 6-7". Not the best looking Uarus they were rescus and had a hard life They also might be stunted. | |

| Great info! Pretty fish love my Uaru been fun to watch them grow
Have youngsters (fry) I'll try to post, they at this stage remind of young calvus to a point, very hard to see in a natural colors themed tank. But big enough the parents are allowing them more freedom to explore under their watchful eye. | |
