We are carrying a lot of fish to mansfiled this saturday and we were going to bag them in fish bags. We do not have an oxygen tank would these fish be okay in bags for an hour and a half? What do you think the best way to transport a larger amount of fish so people will be able to pick them up easier?

I ship fish every week in bags and don't use oxygen. I ship by Priority Mail so they are in the bags for three to four days and they do fine so the answer to your qusetion is yes they will make it for an hour.

Just remember if you ever start shipping them you'll want to double bag them. Also I have never left that much room for air. Maybe about half that.

Years ago I read an article in a magazine(either TFH or FAMA but I'm not sure) about over oxygenating fish during transport being dangerous. We used o2 only very rarely at the stores I used to work at. Smaller fish were just bagged in a larger bag with no added o2 for long(i.e.- overnight) transports. Only larger fish that we couldn't go up a bag size for(i.e.- adult rainbows) that we couldn't go up a bag size on got o2 for long transports. When we'd send them to D.C.(about three hour drive if you miss rush hour on both sides) we never used o2. Most fish should be fine for an hour and a half given adequate bag sizing. Also, make sure the temp stays stable. That's going to be your biggest factor to deal with if you are getting the high temps we are here.

1/4 water 3/4 air.

That is a good point jeep. Make sure the bags are not sitting in the sun.

Bagging 858205 And if some start looking like they need more air (I highly doubt it) You can just pull the rubber band and 're-air' them.

Sounds good I am always paranoid that a fish is going to die because I did something stupid.
