| Pillie I would go with the Cardinal Tetras. They're a little bigger and they should be fine. | |

| that would overcrowd it a little and the betta might get territorial... why not get some bottom dwellers? | |

| ill be getting bottome dwellers and all i was thinking bout is gettin 6 or maybe 10 but not any more and would do cardinals since they r very small and wont do anythin to damage the bettas, i just 3 10 gallons and look pretty bare except for the male bettas so was going to put somethin to liven the tanks up nothin more. | |

| Unless you get them large, I wouldn't try the neons. Cardinals are good, but again, you want to make sure they aren't too small when you get them. The betta doesn't have a very large mouth, so you should be fine with them. Keep in mind, your tetras are schooling fish, so you will want at least 6. As for bottom dwellers, consider adult size as well as feeding and community habits. Corys are good for their small size, but they are schoolers. Most other cats have large mouths and will eat your smaller inhabitants. Keep your tank size in mind as you are acquiring your fish so you don't over-load the tank. For that reason, you will also want to add only one "layer" at a time. | |

| ya i was thinking bout a small pleco and 6 to 10 cardinal tetras, if the pleco gets big ill add to the 100 gallon, i would do corys but yes u hav to hav at least 6 of them thats why o sorted opt them out. so im just wondering if they would be best for my bettas dont want to go to large on fish and just want small ones in the tank. dont want to over stock either and thats why im going on the small size. | |

| i would either go with the betta and 3-4 bottom dwellers or just a school of small cardinal or ember tetras... With that many tetras and the betta, the betta will get territorial especially in a 10g tank. | |

| just 4 panda corys would go fine in there. I have 4 bronze and albino deformed corys in each of my 2 10g with my boys and they do fine. Go with pandas as they stay smaller than most of the other corys without carrying a big price tag that the dwarfs do. |

| Green corys are also cheap and a dime a dozen, or you can do pygmy corys who are twice as small as a normal cory, they grow to about .5" and very cute. I had about 4 in my 5g. Another direction could be microrasboras... they are also tiny and would do very well in a 10g. | |

| the micro rasporas would get eaten. Green corys get too large, the guys I have in my 10g with my male bettas are extremely short and small with their deformity's. Panda corys run about $4.50 each and you can do 4 in there comfortably. They are more readily available and cheaper than the pygmy's. |

| I have had Betta's for the last 15 yrs on and off, and every time I have tried to put them in a community tank, they get tore up because all the community fish (guppies, mollies, swordtails, tetras, serpaes...) see the flowing fins and go "Ooo! A mobile snack machine!". I would have to agree with Fern, cory cats or some bottom dweller would be good. Reciently I had a Betta in a 20 gal tank with an emerald julii and a pleco. Then I was dumb and put my 25+ convict babies in there and they tore him up, so now he is back to being confined in a floating breeder | |
