So I went and checked in on my bettas yesterday, having released the female the day before and I looked at my male's bubblenest and there was eggs! I was so excited! Finally, after nearly two weeks of keeping them in the five gallon tank and one failed attempt at releasing the female (they didn't really do anything :/ ), there are eggs. Oh my gosh, I'm so happy! However, there's been another issue unforunately. My male is apparently inexperienced and so his bubblenest is exceptionally pitiful. At one point he had made a thin stip of bubbles stretching all around the side of the tank, but he finally managed to get a small bubblenest together in a corner and that's when I released the female. But now his bubblenest keeps being moved along the side of the tank. I don't know what to think about that. But maybe he just doesn't like it's location every time he moves it? lol

Kat. The moving thing is normal. The male will move the eggs around. It's like a protective thing they do in the wild to keep them away from predetors. Good luck with your spawn and let us know how they are doing.

Thanks so much guys! I really hope they all make it, but we'll see. And I'll definitely get some pics up when I can, but I have to do house work right now and water changes, ugh lol.

Okay, that's a releif, 'cause I thought there was a breeze messing with the bubblenest or something of that nature. And thank you!

You should have a cover over the tank so you don't get a breeze but either way he will move them around. If you don't have a cover you need to put one on.

Okay, and I do have one on, it's the hood that came with the tank, however I put the little lid up on it that was there would be less condensation running down the walls and ruining his nest. But I've since put it back down and so far there's not much condensation so it's fine now lol

Oh! And the eggs hatched! They hatched yesterday! Some are already swimming, but most are not and they're all sticking as close to the nest (if not in it) as possible. They're super cute, you can see their little eyes and tails, they look like microscopic tadpoles lol And my veiltail is being such a good daddy to them, everytime one comes out of the nest he sucks them up and spits them back in. It's really cute!

Another question for you Whisper: When should I take my male betta out?

As soon as they become free swimming. Maybe a day or two. But keep a close eye on the father. The fry can usually find there way back to the nest after about a day so if you take the father out early it should be ok. When they become free swimming he will start eating them. I have had fathers that are none eaters that I take out early but give him a chance first.
