| thanks everyone. I'm happy with these guys. To te trained crazy discus freak my fish might not be up to par. For me I'm not a crazy discus freak and don't want to become one. I just wanted pretty pets.
Have you ever had sa cichlids before? I would say if you have been keeping fish healthy for 3 yr you can keep discus they are not a fish for a first timer.
Extra feeding and wc . Ph of 7 ish is fine. Good filter to keep the water extra clean. High temps and your good to go. Of they should be kept in groups of 5 or more and 10 gal per fish is the rule.
I have had really good luck with mine so far. | |

| Snowflake............Do you know where they were bred and shipped from?? Were they fed primarily on live foods such as black worms?....................I bought two Asian Discus recently and found out that they were hormoned and fed live foods only....Now I am catching hell trying to get them to eat. | |

| These are asian bred might have had some hormons. Most Asian bred fish have been exposed to hormons. They were fed blood worms. I feed frozen blood worms and I'm tryig to get them to eat a brine shrimp/beef heat mix. A few like it and some others are still geting use to it. The pigoen I got to eat flakes after a week he was from the pet store.
What I do is feed them both at the same time they get into a frenzy and try anything around. It can be hard to switch them but once they adjust they are not as picky.
Who did you buy yours from?

| Snowflake..................4 were from a Stendeker dealer locally and 2 were LFS Oriental Discus......The two Asian Discus look really great and are now very active, but very picky eaters......I have used flake, pellets, and an assortment of frozen foods......The LFS has offered me a free supply of live Black worms, but I don't want to get into feeding them until all else fails.......I have been offered a trade for 4 two inch discus that I am thinking about. | |

| Photos 1 and 2 were said to be domestic Green Tefe I don't think so maybe the first one. Photo 3 was LFS bought and I'm 80% sure its a Pigeon/turq mix. photo 4 should be a Royal blue 5 is was said to be a Scribble.
Dano are you going to make the trade? They should start eatting differant food for you they are not picky fish.

| Snowflake..............."Dano are you going to make the trade? They should start eatting differant food for you they are not picky fish."
Almost all fish that have been raised or kept on live foods can be very difficult to switch....I have seen fish die before they would eat non live foods.......I have got my two Asians to pick at flake and frozen brine shrimp......This is a pain because you have to vacuum the uneaten food to maintain good water quality......My other Discus eat anything like pigs.

| With time fish will take what you give them. I have a 4" Wild caught True parrot and she now eats EVERYTHING that falls in the tank. So they just need time. If they are showing interest then there is hope. Good luck with them. | |
