Tank is set up and now cycling with the catfish for a day or more longer. I need more than the five little terricotta pots I sunk in the sand bottom. (Don't laugh, they'll work if there's nothing else!... LOL... I'll just mention that the lake is polluted by the local people...) None of the pet stores around here sell anything remotely resembling what's found in the natural lake.

There is a large 'Plant ranch and Pond supplier' right down from my school. They also sell all sorts of landscape rock. I plan to go by there tomorrow to get the finishing touches for the 55G Cichlid lake model. What types of rock do you all recommend? Rock - the finishing touch 690297

I've got two tanks setting up. One is a Tropical Stream Model with plants, barbs, etc. The other is an African Rift Lake Model. It's the African Lake Model I'm asking about.

And I'm a girl last time I checked.... LOL

Its mainly up to you, alot of people use different rocks. I've seen some nice african cichlid tanks with smooth river rock stacked high. Alot of people like texas holey rock, because it makes great caves, but my personal favorite is lace rock, just for the looks and caves it creates. Slate is another choice, but is hard to make look natural. Limestone is another choice, it helps with buffering the ph also. I say just take a look around the site and see everyone else setups to get a better idea of what you like, i remember seeing a post about showing your tanks off, but don't kno where it is.
