if you local water is hard which i bet it is you can change your water a millions times and it will never change. you will have to get a RO or something if you want soft water. what do you need soft water for?

its always more important to keep your water parameters consistant rather than trying to modify them to a fish specific needs.

The only reason to be concerned about changing the hardness of your water is for the introduction of new fish (if they are coming from softer water), until they become acclimated, or for breeding purposes. Otherwise, if your fish are healthy and happy, don't worry about it unless it changes. Coming from a well, there shouldn't be any sudden changes to worry about.

Your well water is why its so hard, our bedrock is limestone for the most part and that's what is used to raise PH and hardness in tanks.

How did you acclimate the new guy?

I will probably be testing some of boardrooms tanks today.... so If they are too far off from your readings you may need to start drip acclimating any now fish you get from there.

The only boardroom aquatics is behind the olive garden......
If you want Malaysian trumpet, pond or ramshorns I can just give you some from my tanks.

I haven't gotten to any water testing today.... but they are on city water and you are on well, so I would guess your water is a fair amount harder than theirs......
