Todays Spawn

This is the beautiful Black boy in my avatar or rather what's left of him. LOL He's spawning with a HM Multi green female. This picture was taken today.

so they fight when they breed? i know nothing about bettas.

It's the courtship that is very violent. It can go on as long as three to four days before the actuall spawning. The act of spawning is like a beautiful ballet. As you can see in the picture that the male will wrap his body around the female as she releases the eggs that he fertilizes as they fall out of her. He will then release her as she stays in a semicomotos state for a few second, he will dive to the bottom to collect the eggs and bring them back up to blow them into his bubble nest. This spawning can last as long as 4-5 hours. At the end of spawning he will chase her away from the nest and again become very violent with her. She will eat the eggs. It's at this time that she has to be removed from the breeding tank.

No I've never done them. Things like that creep me out same with the microworms. YUK!!!!!!! LOL

nice hope u hav nice babies in this one. im slowly getting my set up ready how small can u hav for a breeding tank for bettas? i was thinking maybe using my 1.5 but if its to small i wont do it.

I personally wouldn't go below a 2.5. If you end up with 100-300 fry anything smaller they will be very crowed. Even at that when they get ot be about 6 weeks old you will have to split them up into more tanks.

okay i thought so but wanted to ask, ill be getting a 2.5 sometime later wen i get money to buy one. a 10 gallon would be to big wouldnt it, probably so 2.5 it is.

Well I know some people do use 10's but to me it seems like your making the poor tired father work so hard and you can still only have it 5" deep.

At first when he's in there alone you can but once he starts builing a nest and you let her in with him then shut it off. It will stay off from now on.

okay i was just wondering if i get a 2.5g and not the other stuff, so it would be less expensive and easier for the male and once hes done with that i can get a filter if need be

Father took care of eggs and fry then eat the fry.Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Well you'll have that sometimes. I'll wait two weeks Condition them good and try again.
