What is the difference between a red rubin and a german red? I ask because I bought some german reds from Livefishdirect around a year ago under the name of german reds but it looks like the last picture.

The difference in a German, and Ruben, is color.

They are both line breed from a Maleri strain of Aulonocara.
They are from the Aulonocara Sp. Stuartgranti Maleri (Chidunga Rocks).
They are line bred, and not hybrid, fish. The German tends to have more of a orange color or tint.
The Ruben is normally more Red / Orange.
In all honesty it is very hard to tell between them. They come from the same blood lines.
