| Some of you have been asking about the usage of these wonderful leaves so I thought I would post some information about them. They can be used for any freshwater tanks and fish.
Secret for Health, Vitality, and Successful Breeding!
The Scientific Name: Terminalia Catappa Leaves
Common Name: Indian Almond Leaves, Tropical Almond Leaves, Sweet Almond Leaves, Wild Almond Leaves, Sea Almond Leaves, Catappa Leaves, Java Almond Leaves, Ketapang Leaves.
Ketapang leaves are used by tropical fish farm breeders and fish hobbyist to create brackish water or k-water extract to promote healing and breeding for tropical fishes.
Beside creating a natural environment and induces spawning, it also controls or reduces the PH level of water, thus it is also one of the best aquarium water conditioner . They are known to have antibacteria, antifungal, stress relieve and immune boosting properties for all tropical fishes too.
They can be used for the usual aquariums too. With this leaves your decorations seem like in nature world. Attractive!
When soaked in water these leaves will leach a strong brown dye that is full of organic acids like humic acids and tannic acids. These may be useful for inhibiting many types of bacteria as well as to detoxify harmful heavy metals found in the aquarium.
The large, leathery leaves are used in folk medicine to treat infections, indigestion, and other medical conditions. The water extract makes a pharmacologically powerful tea… In southeast Asia, better breeders add a dried leaf to provide a surface for the bubblenest and to leach substances that protect the fry from diseases. As the leaves decay, they also provide detritus to grow extract-resistant infusoria for the babies. Of 35 aromatic (ring structure) substances identified from these leaves, noteworthy were benzene-acetaldehyde, acetones, and sabinen-hydrate. The first is strongly antimicrobial, and several of the 35 others destroy microbial cell membranes. | |

| How about Hawaii? http://cgi.ebay.com/Catappa-Tropical-Almond-Ketapang-A-Large-20-LEAVES-/370378553253?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item563c4837a5 I read about these almonds leaves long time ago and some Pl*co breeders use them. I decided to let my Pl*cos adapt to local water instead of using PH lowering properties of almond leaves. I know some fishes like Discuss need lower PH to breed. | |

| Typical. I have 23 left. These are very large leaves. They measure 8" long x 4" wide. I will be getting more though. The grading of the leaves only means if they have holes in them or are torn, or broken. It has nothing to do with the quality or how well they will work. Let me know if you want the 23. Thanks | |
