| I have read up on how to mate bettas and everything seemed to be going fine, but the male refused to make a bubble nest, and she is flaring at him and trying to kill him. I'm not sure what is going on between them. | |

| Separate them, then I would guess that you should wait till she is fat with eggs and he is nest building before you put her in his tank. But I have never bred them..... |

| How old is he? He may not be mature enough yet although usually they will breed at 4 months. Did you put them in seperate containers next to each other so they can see each other for about three or four days. This is a must before even thinking about putting them together. If he's not showing any interest in her I would seperate them and condition both well before trying again. They both MUST be conditioned with frozen bloodworms and fresh hatched BBS if possible. If they are not conditioned right they will not breed. The male should be showing interest and chase her around, never her chasing him. The courtship can be very violent for about three days. he will chase and tare at her fins. I have had females come out with little or no fins left after the spawning is complete. I also have had males that don't build a nest until the female is in with him. There is way more to it then just throughing them together. Hope this helps and good luck. | |

I was thinking just the opposite. I had a male that absolutely refused to build a bubble nest. It died after about 1 month or so. It was a crown tail from petco. | |

| Chances are he was sick or old when you bought him. The fish that are sold in those chain stores are uaually old or have been used for breeding and the breeder doesn't need them anymore or they are breeder rejects......If you're looked for a good Betta let me know. | |

| A pair would be $18.00+$7.50 Priority Shipping. I usually charge $14.50 for shipping but forum members get the shipping cheaper. | |
