We have SW people but most are new to the SW hobby so any help is much apperciated. yea so help us out a lil iv been reading for out 2 years and am still new to the game:) many people rarley take the time to feed a sun coral so they tend to go dormant"polyps sunk in"paticularly sun corals which require meaty foods 2-3 times per week if you happen to get one that will not open to feed you need to take a 2 liter bottle with the bottom cut off then turn your Power heads off in the tank set the 2 liter bottle over the coral and feed it a mix of Phyto and mysis or brine by using a turkey baster down the neck of the bottle using the food sparingly do this every other evening at the same time of day and the coral will respond it took a month of doing this to bring back one of mine that I had gotten from a friend that nearly starved it to death. now if the entire coral is skeletal dont bother its gone but if there is a poylp or two still with flesh then you maybe able to save the remaining polyps on a sun coral each poylp needs to be fed they are individuals. this is all provided the problem isn't you water quality. they like low light areas I keep mine on the sand bed they also can be trained to open at the same time everyday by feeding at the same time every other day. here is a couple of mine. | |

| Sun corals are one of the few non-photosynthetic corals. The name is because of how they look. They're also typically nocturnal. | |

| alk you have it backwards these need meaty food and dont live on light. pope is right they are nocturnal but they can be trained to open anytime of day if you are consistant with feeding them at the same time. they are only hardy if you feed them and if you cant tell dead from alive by my pics I posted maybe you should google what a dead one looks like. | |

| hows ur tank. the nitrate, alkalinility, ph, salinity, calcium, and lighting. alot of those can be a factor. some if u have low lighting and ph it can hurt them. try putting some iodide. did u acclimate the coral. hope u have a luck. keep the skeleton. keep it there till it bleach out. it might be ok. probably in shock from transport. try put it about quarter high in ur rock. where it can get some nice light. good luck | |
