PostSubject: Stocking a 150g?   Stocking a 150g? Icon_minitime4/15/2010, 11:08 pm

So right now my 150g is home to a bunch of different fish...in the next week or so I'm moving my africans to their own tank and I want to redo my 150(including changing from gravel to sand...haha that'll be fun ;P) Anyway, that'll leave me with a 6" JD, a 2" convict, a 2" red jewel, a 4" red jewel, and a 3" gourami.

I want to stock it with some SA/CA cichlids, any ideas? So far, I was thinking:
Another JD
Acarichthys heckelii
Severums
Eartheaters
A Bichir (maby)

Thanks for any/all input! :)

I would leave off the bichir you may have too many nighttime attacks with one of those. If your after a cool looking bottom dweller that can hold his own get a crested goby.

As long as you go Male/Female on the JD you would be okay with that list I think. Same with the Red Jewels. If you post pics we can help you sex them or at least show you what to look for. Looks like a monster list though, so be careful of fights. Find a fish store that will take fish back or trade them in because, as with all cichlids, you may have some all out brawls!

Thanks for the suggestion fern, wouldn't want anyone having a nighttime snack ^^;

CSnyder - are there any defining characteristics for the m/f JDs? I could take pics but they'd be with my phone :P the red jewels are small enough now that they don't fight, but I'll be sure to watch as they grow. And yes, our lfs trades fish with people all the time, so no worries there :)

example.. one of my tanks is a 110 glass. inside is 10 inch red texas, 2 5 inch jack dempsey, 9 inch managuense, 2 5 inch red jewels, 1 3 inch salvini, 1 5 inch bicher, 5 convicts, 2 4 inch green terrors, 1 5 inch pleco... i have 11 tanks total. key to succes with no fights is hiding places. tunnels, caves, holy rock, slate. stress is a killer if the fish can hide its all good. starting all the fish together young also helps alot.
another example. 120 gal acrylic. i have a 10 inch managuense 9 inch male red terror, 2 5 inch motaguence, 2 4 inch salvini pair, 1 red jewel, 1 5inch tetracanthus (cuban), 6 inch pike, senegal bichre, congo bichre, albino bichre.. 5 inch green terror and a 5 inch freddi.
