| I actually saw an add for the site on Craigslist... While looking for a tank stand, haha. Decided to join up!
I haven't had fish for the last... Oh two years? In that time there was just no room or extra "me" to fully give to one of my favorite hobbies. I gained a wife and a baby in that time (there goes most funding and time right there LOL!) and moved and blah blah, you guys know the excuses. In the past I've kept mostly your run of the mill cichlids... Auratus, estherae, labs, convicts. I've also had my fair share of guppies (ah, the ten gallon limit in dorms), gouramis (honey, blue powder), but my favorite was a blood parrot I was given by a well meaning lady who owns one of my favorite fish shops. Someone had dumped him and a few of his pals off with her and she doesn't "do" hybrids. Anyway, he was by far the most personable fish I've ever owned... I swear he had a mind of his own. But that was a few years ago. Now I'm cycling a 55 gallon in my downstairs family room. Still have some time left on it, but I'm browsing around for ideas of what to stock with. I have no idea and my wife has absolutely no preference besides "pretty".
Besides our prospective fish, have two dogs, three rabbits, and 4 rats in addition to our two children, my son from a previous relationship and our daughter we recently adopted.
So, just hanging around and getting some ideas, maybe some weigh-ins. Thanks for having me!

| Welcome aboard!! Where are you located? If the wife likes pretty, and funds are tight, I'd say go with African cichlids. We have several members with good selections and good prices, and the color scheme is almost limitless. Look around and enjoy the site! | |

| Welcome aboard! If your wife wants pretty you could either go with planted tropical community (no aggression to worry about) Or go African cichlids (would have aggression) Both could give you a wide range of colors... |

| Thanks for the welcome guys!!
I'm torn between a community tank (thinking smaller tetras, that sort of thing) and an African cichlid tank. I myself would be more inclined towards African cichlids, because of how much more interesting they seem to me. I'd be completely interested in buying off some breeders on the site, ones that ship, anyway. There's only two stores in the area I can even think of that would have at least decent quality of fish.

| Ah I need to go and edit my profile, haha. I'm in Iowa, close enough to the Missouri border though to make the drive to Kansas City and back in a day comfortably though.
In all honesty I couldn't tell you what I would be looking for specifically. When I had the cichlids they were always in their own species specific tank, this go around I'm looking for a mixed species tank... Yet have no idea what would "go" together. I'm still researching that aspect, finding ones I like the looks of and what others it can live with. Once upon a time I knew these sorts of things but the information has vacated my mind, haha.
I did answer an ad about a 125 gallon tank, just the tank, for 100 dollars... Probably needs resealed or something like that. If I end up purchasing it that will be a fun project for some larger fish... Ah I can feel the fishkeeping bug has settled with me again! :P
