I looked into the large freshwater clams for my 55 Gallon Sand Gravel Filter for my Koi tank. I never even wanted to try it after I heard everything.

1. They do NOT eat poop like a lot of people think they do.
2. they produce toxins which change water params
3. There is no sure way to QT them, as almost every chemical kills them.
4. They are full of parasites that are inevitably harmful to your fish.
5. They are waste producers- Almost like a pleco.
6. It's hard to catch them in time when they die.

IMO, the cons outweigh the pros.

I have always heard that they were a pain to keep. They also make the water smell horrible when they die.

I think if you want to try them put them in a 10g all by themselves. That way you can figure out if they are worth messing with or not and no fish are put into danger.
