I D Please

This fish had fin-rott really bad. It had no fins at all and just swam with his body in vertical position. I took it home and well 4 months later here it is. Male or female?

Oh,
I have it at work with me in a 20gl. I am trying to get it a tank mate.
Its about 6 1/2 inches.

hard to tell but looks like a male to me about 70 percent male his hump is coming along and his fin is shape like a v very nicely

Red devil aka midas cichlid. I wouldnt chance a tankmate in a 20 gallon. I would look at getting that guy a 75 for a future home. They get big and agressive.

The only thing I would put with him is a huge pleco. Other then that it's going to be a fight. These GET HUGE and super aggressive. If are looking for more fish or what not i would get another tank or give this guy up.

Thanks everyone. When I took the fish it didn't look like anything you would want to save but the owner(dumba$$) said it was in bad condition for 2 months, I could not believe it so I gave him a chance. I have a 55gl sitting in my garage, I'll set it up this weekend and maybe hold on to him for a while. I also took some fancy goldfish(maybe some kind of Koi) I'll put some pics up in a few minutes.

This is my Red Devil....we thought it was a male because the of the slight hump but as it turns out it is a female. We have her in with several other fish but they could all kick her a$$ if they wanted too. She is the mother of my fry and can def be pretty aggressive so I think I would go with a large pleco if you want to put anything in with yours.

Nice save!!! I love them rescue animals!!! Thats one reason the wife dosent like me going into any of the pos lfs...
