So it seems that my planted tank is having unexpected guests over every time I closely look over it and now I need some help. I'm pretty sure is is algae of some sort because it only attaches to something that is dieing/dead leafs.

By the way we're looking at the darker green portion of the plant (the thing that looks like hair)

That would be hair algae. The best tools to remove it are either a new tooth brush or bottle brush just twirl it about and get the algae wrapped on it.

yea it's def. hair algae.. hate them. remove as much as you can manually, lower light time, less food, and wait...

or get some siamese algae eaters or do excel spot on treatments.

The weird thing is that when it attaches to a leaf, the leaf dies within a week or so. So I've been plucking out the "dead" ones. I put my pleco back in(took him out because he ate 3 blood worm cubes within a min) and he's somewhat eating the hair algae. It looks less but who knows!

Poo is good to some extent. It is a fertilizer but I already have enough of that from my substrate. I'm not worried about co2 and lighting but it all works out!
