| Get box, insulate with Styrofoam, get bags, get some o2 if you can it helps but not necessary. Bag the fish 1/3 water 2/3 air double or triple bag depending on spines. Add a heat pack or 2 depending on whether. Overnight is the best way to go.... but some can go flat rate Bigger fish 1 per bag smaller fish you can do a few more. The younger they are the better they handle shipping.
If it worry's you do a trial ship, have someone pay the postage and ship them a fish and see if it worked or not. |

| One of the most important things to remember is the weather conditions between you and the receipent. Esp on the other end. | |

| It probably hurts them but they still live. I mean goldfish DO like super cold water. | |

| No, my gpa overfed it and it exploded. Rule of thumb to freeze goldfish: Nothing smaller than your palm. | |

| Like I said rach if you have a 'spare' fish just find someone who will give it a good home and have them pay the shipping and give it a try! |

| i would like to add some stuff on top of what everyone has posted...
i usually dont feed my fish prior to shipping them out.. atleast 24 hrs. Kordon Breather Bags are best but reg. fish bag you get at the lfs works fine...
I usually fill water to where it covers the top of the fish, whether the bag is standing up or on it's side with a bit of room for air. You dont want too much air which will cause splashing and stress the fish. A drop or two of prime with the water works wonder...
I also usually ship the fish/shrimp with a bit of plants from the same tank..
Also learn how to tie the bag like they do at the lfs, i cant tell you how many times i have received bags that leaked bc the seller didnt tie the bag properly.
When placing the heatpack, space it out... do not let it get about an inch or two close to the bag...
It's very easy and you learn the more you ship, i dont know why people don't do it as much... it's pretty much like going on a roller coaster for the first time.. it's scary thinking about it but once you do it and go thru it.. it's pretty easy and fun. | |
