First topic message reminder :

I have two blue zebra cichlids. The ignorant little man at the petco here told me I had two males... Which turned out to be wrong.. and now my tank is over run with the babies. From what I have read, she is showing signs that she is holding yet again and I was wondering if its possible for her to over breed? If so I will make it a priority to pull her out and put her on her own for a little while. I quit seperating the fry from the general population when we got to about 20 babies because at this point Im happy for the population control. But how long do I have before they start breeding? As it is now, I'll be posting some of them for sale here shortly when I can get some good pictures. They really are pretty little guys and these fish have shown little to no aggression compared to the others in the tank.

The demasoni is Pseudotropheus demasoni , the Kenyi is Metriaclima lombardoi not just color morphs. get the facts before you go calling people ignorant. it is irresponsible to distribute the fry. if you love em great...buy a swimming pool because soon she'll have a million valueless fry to support. do not breed fish if you are unprepared to deal with the results.

Its not like I am breeding them on purpose! I didnt even know that I had a female, let alone which one was the female until I caught her holding. I called the man at the pet store ignorant, and for good reason. its his JOB to know what hes doing and he misinformed me, which got me into this spot in the first place. I wanted an ALL MALE tank to avoid this kind of a situation. SMDH

And I was told in here what a hybrid is, by one of your own. I fully understand WHAT they are, I just do not understand the distaste for them, or the suggestions that I just slaughter the bunch like some sort of genocidal tyrant.

The people on this site hate hybrids. What you decide to do with them is your choice. You don't know for sure they are until you know the parents. Have fun and enjoy.

Thanks Dr. Who. I think they're pretty cool and I will be pulling my female out of the main tank and putting her in her own tank with two 'non breedable' males for company. If I had known I had a female I would have taken the precautions to ensure this hadnt happened in the first place.
