Hi Yall.
My name is Mark and I am new to the forum. I have raised poison dart frogs for about 8 years and I am now getting back into fish. I am interested in learning more about south american cichlids. I am ignorant to the scientific names of the fish as of now but learning quickly. if anyone could suggest species with pics I would appreciate it greatly.
I love setting up show tanks and viquariums. I cant wait to get some cool fish going.

There are a lot of great sites to get you started including this one with common/proper names as well as pics. Take a look around. Just remember not all Cichlid's will become friends. In fact, many kill each other. Very important to research who will tolerate who, PH needs, etc. I enjoy Green Terrors, Rams, Oscars, Jacks.. Honestly your just gonna have to look around as there are TONS of options, prices and opinions out there. Find the fish that you find most visually pleasing and then start researching availability, needs and whom they play well with. If you ask me, the Frontosa is one of the most amazing fish I have ever had the pleasure of owning, and personally I prefer Africans, but again just an opinion. :-)
