I have a 180g african cichlid tank and i was wondering if it is possible to use the lighting that makes the tank appear blue....

Any advise is appreciated.

If you are referring to actinic lighting then yes, just buy new bulbs that are actinic (vs, 10,000 or 6,500 k). You might want to get a 50/50 bulb (50% actinic/50% 10,000 k- I think, it might be 6,500 k instead of 10,000.) 50/50 gives a really nice viewing spectrum. Actinic might come across as too "dark" looking. If you have a double bulb fixture (vs. several single bulb fixtures) then try 1 actinic bulb and 1 50/50 to give you more of the blue end of the spectrum without giving too much blue that you lose the brightness of the tank. It doesn't matter whether you have a T-5, Fluorescent or Power Compact fixture, each makes the different color spectrum bulbs.
