take a pic if you can. if its coraline, then it wont rub off.. its its like a film on your rocks and you can brush it or blow it off it is cyano. which is a bacteria...what r your water parameters? lighting and light cycle? what size tank and how long has it been set up? ohh.. is reef or FO

you usually get cyano from new tank set ups.. its common..still cycling. if you overfeed and your nitrates go up accompanied with too much light(running for too long) or old/malfunctioning bulbs. do a water change, stop feeding for a few days and cut your lights back. if theyr on longer than 8-10 hrs its really too long
