Could I use live rock in my fluval?instead of buying media throw LR in there?or is that just not a good ideal?

I would think live rock would need a certain amount of light to remain live

But would the canister still have the build up without the filter media? Just a thought...

does he plan on having media and LR in the filter?
idk maybe
if their is no media in the filter than i dont think that LR would do such a great job at filtering the detrius from the tank since the water will be moving to quick for the rock to actually filter anything. that or the rock will build up or catch all the funk and just have it stacking and piling on the rock?
soo poo and all that other funk will just be circulating the tank thus resulting in alot of nitrates
also if he doesnt have a ligt in the filter for the rock i dont think the rock will stay live for long lol

but then again idk iv never done it with just LR in a canister filter

what do yall think?

I'm not really sure. I have LR rubble in my HOB filter and no light or anything. No filter media either. It's been that way about a month or so with no complications. But I do weekly water changes too.

Hmm....
i also have LR rubble in my HOB but i cut a slit on the cover so light bleeds into the filter for the rock
i also have some cheato in the filter aswell
and all goes well
iv already had to trim the cheato since i tossed it in the filter
but ya see i do daily WC's becuz i have sps in such a small tank! and becuz of tht my water is always in check with params(i hope lol)
i do somtimes throw carbon in a baggy or somthin in the hob to polish the water
