Outside of my love for Cichlids I also have a soft spot for Great Danes... I have rescued over 20 Great Danes in the last 2 years. While in San Antonio I was part of the San Antonio Great Dane Rescue. I found many abandoned, neglected and surrendered Danes while there. I have 4 now that I have adopted and have joined my family... but I'd have 20 more if I had the room and $ to make it happen. These giants eat a ton of food and the medical bills can get big quick... anyway no more sobbing! Here's a few pictures of my clan!

First up this is Bailey: she's about 2 yrs old and is what they call a Brindle/quin. Her dad was a Harlequin and mother was a Brindle. She is very solid but not overly tall. She has stranger aggression so we don't take her out into crowds. We go to secluded areas to walk her.

Next up is Princess... I rescued her from a back yard breeder. I found her and she was very mal-nurished covered in fleas and ticks and chained to a stake in a backyard full of male Danes. So I "borrowed" her during the cover of darkness and got her spayed and she's been with me about 7 years. She is at best estimate 12 yrs old and Danes have an average life span of 6-8 yrs... so she's a tough lady!

Next we have Bella, she was also rescued from a back yard breeder in San Antonio. I didn't get her at night I walked into this guys yard in broad daylight and picked her up and carried her to my truck, She couldn't even walk, she had giant hygromas on her buttocks and hocks (back of knees). She was close to death. Anyway the guy tried to stop me but I told him "I'll kick your a$$ and then take the dog or I can just take the dog." He knew the police would arrest him with the dog in this condition so he didn't try to stop me. Anyway here she is! (Oh thats the shadows.. she doesn't have cropped ears)

Last but not least we have Charlie! Charlie was surrendered to the rescue because he can't legally be bred (he has Demodex mange). This is not contagious by contact only from nursing mothers. Anyway the treatment (Ivermectin) is close to $75 a month alone... but he's part of the family. Basically this mange flares from time to time and is a "Mother" to fight but how can you not try to keep a face like this???!!!!

Yes he is naughty too...... do not turn your back on him, NO FOOD is out of his reach!

I had one back in the 70' "Ragieon" was huge and all black and thought he was a lap dog. he loved being in the pool floating with an inter tube around him. His body finally got to big for his heart and at age 6 had to put him down I cried for months.
