PostSubject: freshwater to salt?   freshwater to salt? Icon_minitime12/13/2010, 12:50 pm

Should I turn my freshwater 55 gallon into a saltwater tank?

I like the fish I have but I can only really have one big tank, and lately I've been getting into saltwater and it just seems really cool to me and a small 10 gallon tank would be harder to maintain than the 55 and I know I'd want to expand on it later... I've pretty much done all I can do with cichlids in the past and I think I'm ready to step up...

anyone think I should make the switch?

Its not that hard to switch as long as you have everything you need to start the salt tank. I felt the same way with the cichlids i had so i jumped ito the salty world for a while.

If you want to I think you should. I would get another tank and keep a FW so you don't have to choose between the 2. YOu can have both!

You are right, you can do a shoddy sw tank, that you dont want to show anyone for that price. But if you are talking about a real sw tank, no way in hell. My bulb cost more than 50 bux. How many sw tanks you have right now?

I read your previous post, but I was making sure. Its easy to say, oh it wont cost this much until you set the tank up. I did agree with you. You can have a tank for 50 bucks. It will be an empty, ugly tank. You have all that stuff which is about your 50 limit. So I take it no live stock, no inverts, no corals, no food?

He's right. The lowest I've seen lr on co was $3/lbs and that was a few years ago. Now its $4 to $7 per lbs on cl. If you do score on cl you lucked out bigtime. I am always on cl and the few steals I found were gone within an hour of posting It.

lol i actually came up on a box full of "kent" chemicals and foods calcium magnesium and stuff
i helped a lady buy a fish tank off CL and it came with a bunch of SW stuff she didnt want the stuff so she gave it to me for helping her out!
im literally set! all i need is water and fish!
i have a bunch of rock and sand in my dads shed and everything else in under my 100g in my father in laws living room!
so once i find a bigger place ill most def will set up a SW tank! and i can asure you it wont be empty and ugly like you say sir!
just cant find any good deals on a house on CL lol!

you must not know how much livestock costs. And, btw, you need a Clean up Crew that even for a nano tank, will run you more than 30 bux. But, you will find out when you buy your house and set a tank up.

I know alot about my SW stuff. I also know that 50.00 is not going to cut it unless you get an entire set up for that price, its not happening. Like I said b4, you cant even do a fw tank at that price unless its some miraculous hook-up. Getting stuff off CL is cool and dandy, but that shouldnt be your main source of supplies. That's how you introduce all kinds of stuff into your tank that will have you scratching your head and pouring chemicals into it; not to mention if the parts and stuff even work properly.

its one of my sources. not the only!
and all my stuff works! iv tested everything i bought or have recieved! exept the skimmer i got in that box of chemicals and food! that thing is funky as hell and i dont really plan on using it! i plan on goin skimmer less anyways on my nano when i start it again
i didnt say all you need is 50$ bucks and youll be good!
i just said that out of all the stuff i have i only spent bout 50$ if the dude looks hard enough hell find what he needs at a good price!
i didnt say "oh get 50$ and buy everything you need and with the change buy a couple onyx clown fish, and throw a maxima clam in their aswell...you should have enough!"
sheesh
