| pillier your water is way to deep . No more then 5" so the male doesn't have so far to go to take care of the eggs and later the fry. | |

| Also I keep all filters off until the fry are about 4 weeks old. no water changes until they are about 2 weeks old. Put a clump of java moss in for the fry to eat there first food from. Then do water changes very carefully using a turkey baster being careful not to pick up babies with it. A filter running while the males is trying to keep a nest will brake it up. | |

| Fern, it took a while to find one, but with my practice bettas(pet store fish) spawn growing out, here's one practicing making a bubble nest. He had nothing in to hold it together, but I wasn't breeding them anyway. These went to needy children for Christmas in the name of MCAA our Tennessee fish club. Those are dried water spots on the jar. They got daily water changes so I never bothered polishing the glass on 80 jars daily LOL | |

| I forgot to mention the part where I had a divider in the tank while the spawning was going on and the filter was on the opposite side from the fish. A filter splashing on the nest certainly would cause some damage. Looks like you have a mentor so I'll back off. Good luck! | |

| Another thing is your tank is WAY to big. The male will be exausted trying to collect eggs and fry. Don't forget he is going be going without food for about 5 days. This my breeding tank. It's a 2.5 gal. Notice the water level is only 5" deep. | |

| She looks fat? Or is she bloated? or Did you just feed her or is she full of eggs? You have to know these things so you will learn to know that difference. | |

| Yea wait. That tank is way to big. You can use anything from the 2.5 - to a 5gal. Just be careful of the water level. | |

| How many gallons is that tank. You can use that one as a grow out tank when they get to be about 6 weeks old. | |

| Pilli, I will add a small wad of java moss in the box of fish, that way you have some when you try it again. |

| Also another thing to look for on the female is her egg tube. If she's mature enough to breed she will have one. Here are a few pictures of them. This one is the Multi Green mother of the fry. | |

| I'm hoping that some of these fry will be good enough to send to the IBC shows next spring. They should be there out of Karens show winning stock. | |
