| In my tropheus and frontosa tanks i dose with epsom salt after each water change just as a laxative to get their digestive tract going. does this also imply to saltwater fish aswell. if so..... How much salt is needed or is it the same as freshwater? (I did 1 tsp. for every 5 gallons) Thanks in advance | |

| i have never used epsom salt in my saltwater tank and i personally would never use it. if you want to get right down to it most fish in saltwater reefs will graze upon algae which is basically a form of plant and a plant is ruffage meanign a saltwater fish will get plenty of a laxative because as we all know a salad will help clean you out. so unles you are referring to a fish that eats meat only (sharks, puffer, etc.) then i see no need just supplement with nori (seaweed) and you will be good. |

| i dont do epsom either.. i try to keep my tank as much like the ocean as possible and like raptor said most fish are omnivores which helps keep them regulated but i have heard alot of people use it so i guess to each is own | |

| I used non-iodized salt in my goldfish tank, but i never used epsom salt. I salted the water to help fish heal and also to prevent disease. If you wanted something to help regulate their digestion I used to use peas. Peas work really well. | |

| Yup, regular green peas. I used the frozen kind. The canned kind are too squishy and will cloud up the water. | |

| I use a combo of Mortons pools softer salt (99.9% salt) and Epsom salt in my cichlid tanks. |

| i would not use epsom salt in my saltwater tank, i assume this is a salt tank the op is referring to since he posted in the general saltwater section. op if you are wanting an answer for a freshwater tank try posting this question in the general freshwater area |
