20 gal high - 6 choprae danio, cycling, mostly done
10 gal quarantine - 1 turquoise, 1 macie and 2 dwarf Rainbows, 3 black kuhli loarches quarantine from a tank that had gotten sick; will go into my community tetra tank and the 20 high when all is confirmed to be ok.
Have set up my 20 gal long for an oranda goldfish; she'd be in there now if the store hadn't dropped her and now we don't know if she'll make it....look to put two orandas in my 40 breeder when I get it set up!
Also looking at getting a 27 gal cube and stand on sale and Petsmart but don't know where I'd put it!

| My Oranda, Penelope, is doing very well in her tank which for now is a 20 gal long. Eventually she will need to go into my 40 breeder, which I haven't set up yet. When that happens, the location of the tank will change and I won't be able to see her quite as well. I would be changing out my 30 gal and putting the 40 in its place. This would happen much sooner if I get her a buddy. She is very personable, comes over to see me and "virtually" swim by my hand through the glass. She is busy all the time with grazing the bottom of the tank, swimming through her bubble wall, and generally just swimming around. This personability makes me think she might really enjoy a buddy. What are your thoughts about Oranda buddies? | |

| If an Oranda is a type of goldfish I would stick with goldfish of some sort for a buddy.
Ther reason is that goldfish can carry disease to tropical fish without being affected, also goldfish don't need temps in the 75-85 degree range like most tropical fish.
I learned this the hard way 28 years ago when I put a male betta and some guppies in with about six feeder goldfish in a ten gallon tank.
I battled fin rot, blunt trauma (the goldfish ran in to the Betta) and had dead fish all the time.
I had to remove everything from the tank, clean everything and dose with tetracycline and start again.

| I think I would get another Oranda, maybe one in a different color than Penelope. Other fish might laugh at her for being Oranda. | |

| Yes, I'd add another goldfish just like her, but a contrasting color and smaller than she is.
I did see some Panda Moor goldfish at the LFFS (local fancy fish store) that were very neat looking, and a small red Oranda with gorgeous long fins.
I have heard that mountain minnows can be nice in a goldfish tank as they are coldwater fish too. But I'd wait until Penelope is in a 40 breeder to add those, I think.

| Sounds like you already have it planned out. Put Penelope in the 40 breeder and add the minnows and "a boyfriend" for Penelope and she should be one happy fish. | |

| "If I could have all the fish I want, I would have more fish than the fish stores." Aren't they wonderful??? I love watching fish. And I also would have every kind if I were rich and someone else would do the care.... Laugh at her? LOL! The first time I saw an Oranda I thought it was sick, with a huge fungus on its head....now I think they are the cutest things out there. I do know what I want to do. And I'm looking at the same future as other fishkeepers - bigger and more tanks. Thanks for condensing that for me! | |

| Not a problem, sometimes people just need someone to tell them that they have it right (know what they want and get affirmation that it's a good idea) for them to decide. | |
