Frag tank! Empty
PostSubject: Frag tank!   Frag tank! Icon_minitime4/4/2012, 11:15 am

So I had an idea to build an acrylic wall in a 20 long for a frag system when I found this on another board.

Frag tank! Complete_Kit

So coming soon will be a 20L all-in-one. I'm going to use an oceanic 20l obtained at the first usafishbox auction, and this wall. The first chamber will hold chaeto which will also act as poor mans mechanical filtration. Second chamber will be purigen and chemi pure elite, and the third will hold a maxi 12 with a hydor rotating deflector for the return. I estimate 5 pounds of rubble, a three tier eggcrate shelf to hold frags, and the lighting will be handled by a 30" current sundial 4x24w fixture with all ATI blue+ bulbs. Ok, well maybe a purple one in there to handle red accents, but that's the plan. The idea is to have a setup easy enough to run in the house, but also easy enough to break down to carry to frag swaps. It will also be bear bottom. I'll post pics of the actual build as soon as my new parts get here.

So it came in, exactly as advertised, and exactly like the pic in the first post. That said, this was made specifically for a top fin 20L, which is the petsmart line. So another 32.99 and some silicone later...

Well the first update goes as follows...

Forgot to put silicone on the baffle that goes all the way to the bottom. Thus completely rendering the baffled overflows useless. Tore it all out last night, cleaned the silicone back off. Letting the tank dry before I try again today.

This will be bare bottom for ease of transport to and from frag shows. I'm thinking of going with the black granite textured spray paint seen here, and maybe a black background. I really want the colors to pop on corals for show purposes so I think this is the best way.

I usually shoot for one swap a year. It's a lot of prep and bs.

true.
i have some buddy over in Los angeles and orange county that have to deal with
the coral farmers market here. its once a year but really a pain. i get to help set up about 3-4 booths. its kinda fun. they usually hook it up for helping them set up.
but this year i dont have any tanks set up so i guess im working for free....

once set up
are you going to run this all the time for frags or just use it for the swaps?
what are you going to use to light it?

4x24w t5 atm. I don't know if I'm going to use it all the time for frags yet or not.
