Eheim 2217? Empty
PostSubject: Eheim 2217?   Eheim 2217? Icon_minitime11/8/2011, 5:08 pm

I bought a Eheim 2217 awhile back from someone and it was my fault that I didn't check it out before buying so when I got it set up and turned it on at first it wouldn't prime and when I got it primed it leaked at the disconnect valves. When it was running the impeller was noisy so I turned it off.I got some new disconnect valves and installed them and it still won't prime.I use to have a 2215 and had no problem with it priming.Do you think it needs a new impeller?Thats the only think I can think of!Anyone have any ideas of what it could be?Thanks!

I know they are suppose to be self priming but I have found two things that stop them. First bad design can do it but mainly air trapped in the filter, and second too much thick/dense media in the filter. When I prime mine I use this process because it has been fool proof for me.

1. let it take suction on the inlet tube then
2. close the outlet valve, remove outlet connector
3. allow air to be pushed out by water flowing in
4. when water starts to pour out of outlet side put connector back on,
5. open output and start filter.

Eheim filters are well designed but use a lot of O-rings. Check your O-rings ,grease 'em ,and with the eheims as well you need to fill the intake and return lines. Also make sure your canister is full.

Thanks for the advice!I actually got it working now just took forever.I did grease all the O-rings and its working good now and not noisy. Its just when I had my 2215 I didn't have to do anything, but fill up the canister.I didn't have to fill the intake and return lines and it primed its self.Oh well I got it working now! Thanks! usafishbox
