You may have to order them from McMaster. Most stores are not stocking these things anymore. Also you can try looking at Lowe's, Home Depot or Plumbing supply store. Ask if they can order them in for you if they do not stock them.

That's what I was afraid of. I will ask the machinists at work if they have them. Thanks Alton S!

What size do you need? I have a few taps I used for airline valves. I do believe home depot sold them though.

That's what I'm looking for. I need to find the airline valves too. I would feel better if syphon break was drilled and tapped instead of siliconed.

Well I am still pretty sick right now but I have the tap/die set. Like I said I am pretty sure I got them from Home Depot in their tools isle.

I was there this morning, the smallest nipple they had was 1/2 in. No tap for it either. They had normal tap sets but not nipples that would correspond with them. I don't care on the thread count or size just as long as its threaded and water tight. I'm in no rush just planning ahead. Did they have the airline valves at home depot too?

No the valves I had to order. http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3669+8165&pcatid=8165

Can actually buy it all there if you wanted and it is fairly cheap. For what you want the brass valve would work great since you can tighten it down unlike the others that are just wing valves.

Without a saddle you will not have a air or water tight connection.

Never heard of them. So tapping and teflon wouldn't work?

If you need a air or water tight connection. No theres not enough threads to make the connection tight.

I see your point. So where would I find these saddles? Thanks for the heads up.

Now thats a good question. Years ago there was a company in Georgia that sold them. I have a supply of them and valves nut not interested in selling them.

The threaded tap made mine air tight and would also likely be water tight at least under its current pressures. Seems that many people use them just as is on PVC. The saddles would likely be a good idea but I really don't think it is a must.

Mine is also a 1.5 inch pipe so it has less of a curve and I get good thread contact as well. On a smaller pipe I suppose this could be a problem. One way to find out!

I got an extra valve and some pipe I can go make it up real quick and see what I end up with. What size pipe are you using? I'll give it a shot on some 3/4 if it works their and it works on 1.5 then we have at least covered those bases.

Well it would be helpful if I could find my taps... In any case it is worth a try. I know I have had no problems but who knows.

If all else fails just use an undersize hole and cut a slanted tip on the tube and work it in there. I had to do this on a few projects now haha. Then a small air valve on the end of that and you are set.

Just a quick search here but they have almost anything plumbing related.

Ok I see what a saddle is now but I just need a syphon break in overflows. Right now i have drilled holes with a valve siliconed in place. I found the brass fittings at home depot and was gonna drill and tap the pvc and teflon the connection. The brass fittings are MIP and npt. Not to complicated but the price of pvc is gonna be way cheaper then having to order a saddle. Good idea though. Now I know about these saddles for when I do air.

Strick they need a saddle to fit on a 1/2" or 3/4" pvc with a 1/4" npt.

That's what I figured. The curve would be too much one those sizes. It should be close on 1 inch but it might just work.
