Is this a Koi - or not?

What do you think? The fish in this picture certainly looks rather like a Koi...but read on!

When is a Koi not a Koi? When it’s a Harlequin wrasse (Bodianus eclancheri)!

Native to the South-East Pacific, this reef-associated marine fish is also found in the cooler waters off the Galapagos Islands where, like many of the Island’s other fauna, unique species variations produce these bi-colour and tri-colour versions, when in many other parts of the world this fish will be a dull grey.

Did the pattern make Koi fans look twice? We certainly did!

yes the pattern looks Koi but he has no whiskers most koi/goldie crosses will have no whiskers. Look closely...if your fish has whiskers, there is a 99.9% chance it is a koi. No whiskers it is either goldie or a cross..lol or in this case a Harlequin Wrasse:) very pretty fish though! very interesting:)

Welll....the color "reminds" me of a Koi...but other than that...Nope...doesn't look like a koi at all to me.

The other Koi looking fish is a Shubunkin. They look just like a Koi except they don't have the barbels.
