Hi all! My name is Meredith, and I'm new to Fish box.
I grew up with fresh water tanks, but I've always wanted a marine tank....and, now, I'm finally at a place where I can start a reef set up. I'm excited, and more than a little nervous! I would LOVE any advice from those of you who have reef tanks to help me get started.

I recently got a pre owned 55g tank that was used as a FOWLR set up, so it came with the filter, protein skimmer, lighting, and 2 power heads, and it has been pre drilled for a sump/refugium. Everything works and I checked to make sure it holds water (figured that would be the most important thing to check..LOL!).

I'm going to go check out more of your site. Glad to know you're here! :)

Thank you everyone! :)

I do have a question about "pre cured" live rock... I know that I will have to cure it again because of the expected die-off from shipping, etc. But is that a safer way to go to help ensure there's no unwanted organisms, like mantis shrimp and such?

The closest (reputable) LFS to where I am is about an hour and a half away. I was looking at the pre-cured rock from Live Aquaria, but if it would be better to get my live rock from a LFS, I will do it.

If there's anything I might be able to do to help with getting the MO chapter going, don't hesitate to let me know! I live way out in the middle of no where, but I would be happy to do whatever I can.
