WOW!! What a stunning set up. You have one very lucky husband.

I love the wood. I've stayed away from it as I read it could mess up the pH, do you have any problems?
Also what filtration are you running, looks like a sump and an Eheim. "there's no such thing as over filtering?"

PostSubject: Thanks For The Compliments!    6/8/2011, 10:44 am

Thanks for all the compliments.........yes that husband of mine is "very" lucky and was overwhelmingly surprised and happy. I had to sneak around for a month and a half coming up with several reasons I had to keep going over to my sister's house. The work on the stand I did "with my own two hands" made the greatest impact on him. Well let me give you the setup info and I will try not to miss any questions. This tank has a built-in overflow box with what I think is a 20 to 30gal sump system underneath and submersion heater. Yes we are running the Eheim 2217 Classic canister filter the works great. It was amazing to watch the guys setting this up there was no way I would have been able to do the plumbing required for this and I'm glad I let the professionals handle that. Now because we had the maintenance service for 6 months we changed up the decor each month to keep it interesting and play around with different arrangements so it is not the typical African arrangement. The driftwood eventually was taken out of the setup because it eventually made the water cloudy because of a process called "leaching" of color and impurities which can take several months and many carbon changes to eliminate.......we just happen to be too impatient to wait so we removed it for now. We didn't have any other issues with the wood I guess because of the great filtration setup.....thankfully, because "cover your ears".....we don't monitor the pH in the tank or do any type of water testing. We are still beginners and coming out of maintenance service in Mar 2011 we still have lots to learn but I can say we have not lost many fish since the install and have multiple females adding 15 to 30 fry at a time to the point we have set up a 10g and a 16g bow with a 27g hex we are slowly getting ready. We have one male Demasoni that luuuuvs his two females..alot....lol! I will share some pics of the current setup as soon as I can get them out of the camera. You will see just how much they have all grown since Oct 2010.....yeah less than a year. Hope I covered everything, thanks again!
