When I switched my 150 form Saltwater to Freshwater, I simply just drained all the water out, changed the substrate, and cleaned up the filters a little. If you don't feel that is good enough after you fill the tank back up then you can always use a hydrometer to check if there is trace amounts of salt left over. Personally I had trace amounts of salt left over but I put my fish in it anyway, knowing that trace amounts of salt can actually be quit good for freshwater fish. Good luck!

You can most def, do it, because I've done it, so I know you can to! You may also want to keep in mind on how big the tank is. If its a little tank you may want to do a better deeper cleaning of the tank because a little bit of salt in a little tank, may turn out to be deadly and suffocate your fish. Whereas in a bigger tank a little bit of salt is going to mean nothing because it is so diluted by the freshwater. How big is the tank?

Yea, being its only a 26 gallon, I might do a little extra rinsing out of things. But if your using new/your own filters instead of the ones from the saltwater tank then you will be just fine doing a half a$$ job.

clean it out with a mix of 50/50 tap water and white vinager.. use new substrate( the bottom stuff), and clean out the filters with tap water, clean dry off and get new media... :) .

I had a saltwater set up for approximately 10 years. About 8 months ago I switched to freshwater after a beautiful Desjardini that I had purchased got black ich and spread it to my other fish in a matter of hours. It wiped out my whole tank. I was so angry that I broke down my tank and started over. It was a well established tank that had been running for years. Switching over to freshwater was one of the smartest things I've ever done. I'm much more happy with my freshwater tank as I ever was with my saltwater.

Hmm... I can't imagine going back to freshwater, thats where I started and was never able to recoup any money like I do with coral. what doesn't make a reefer give up makes him better in the long run.
to each his own I guess:)
