So i know everyone has got beef with hybrids and tons of opinions on the matter, but ive a good one here for yall to argue and mull over. what about cross breeding albino phenotypes with wild type coloration? how do purists feel about that. i know i stumped KMX with my question cuz he told me to put it on forum for debate. in my question i was specifically referring to cichlid breeding, like an extremely pretty albino female kribensis with an awesome looking wild-type male kribensis. H E L P !! what are everyones thoughts on the matter?

Personally I wouldnt do it, but they are the same species. So I dont see a problem with it. I beleive some malawi haps are crossed with albino mbuna to get the gene and then bred back to pure strain species to distribute the gene. That I dont agree with. The kribs are pure just albino so they are ok with me. Just my 2 cents.

My normal colored kribs have wild blood (Moliwe), working on 2nd gen now the males are much larger than the domestic/tank raised stock we had locally available.

Intentionally picking out which males and females you breed (of same species) isn't really hybridizing it's line breeding, and I'm not a big fan of them but I can accept them more readily than hybrids.... The problem with line breeding is you can actually get fish that don't look like their wild species. Case in point when folks pick out yellow labs they always go for the bright yellow with little to no barring... nothing like the wild caught ones that we started with...

I put a colony of fish in a tank and they dominate male usually does the breeding.... when he dies someone takes over... I try to avoid manipulating them as much as possible. I do cull any "deformed fish" but other than that I just strip the moms and put all the fry in growout tanks and then spread them out as much as possible. If my breeding colony starts to get some age on them, I just keep a batch of fry and start over.... It's as random as I can make it.

Your talking color morphs. Thats not a hybrid. Hybrids are crossing different spieces. I rememmber breeding birchardi's when I got 2 albinos. Cross those and now you have albino birchardi's.

No I don't have any more. Sold them a long time ago. They were the first ones breed. Sold then to Southern Tropical who worked with them and Bill took credit for them.
