Thanks for the link. I had looked into this when I went out to get my first canister filter. It is a very easy to follow design and the guy put some thought into it. The only real problem I saw was that the design itself has not been tested for flow or efficiency. Not to say it wouldn't work great BUT for me it would be a test setup.

In other words you don't really know how well it works. I have made lots of things that look like they should work but fail at the functional level. If you had the supplies (the ones he uses wouldn't cost that much other then the pump) I would give it a shot just to see.

To be honest I have two large canisters for my display tanks and the rest get sponge filters.

I'm always amazed at DIY projects like that. I would wonder about the flow as well. I have 2 canister filters on my 80 gallon and I've actually thought about a 3rd

I love this idea, right now I have 3 filters on my 55 gallon to keep the flow of water through the tank high with all the fish I have. My question is, how can you calculate the proper flow in a DIY project like this? Also, is there a recommended rate of flow for tank size and or number of fish in the tank? the info I have found online varies greatly.
