| So I am trying to use silicone in my aquarium and I just wanted some different peoples input and experience. I have some GE silicone II clear in a small squeezable tube that I bought from walmart. It says its premium waterproof silicone. It says kitchen/bath/plumbing. 100% silicone. Do you guys think its safe to use in an aquarium? I just want to know if anyone has used it and not had any problems with it killing fish. Thanks in advance. | |

| If memory serves me right, you don't want use that kind. It normally is mildew resistant which is bad. Silicone I is what you want to look for. | |

| GE silicone I window and door is what you want. The bathroom kind I believe has a fungicide in it and that is bad. Nearly all of my tanks have been re sealed with the GE I and I have never had any issues. Any yes it says 'Not for use below the waterline, Not for use in aquariums' But It works just fine without any issues. Give it 48hrs dry time before your leak test. You need to do a leak test on your first few re seal jobs till you get the hang of it, then you can either leak test or not, it all depends of your neurosis |

| Yes I saw the other thread about it and I tried to look at other stuff but some people said its ok and some said its not. But if you guys have used GE silicone I and not had any problems then Ill just take back what I got and get the silicone I. Id rather not risk it. Thanks so much for your input everyone, you guys are great!
I do have a couple questions. I want to put up some pics of my aquariums but I dont really know how yet. What would I put my thread under and how do I add the pics? | |

| GE I is all I have ever used. I looked at the aquarium selant but it is more costly. And actually, you didn't hear this from me, GE I and the aquarium selant are the same, just packaged differently for marketing. Shhhhhh ... you didn't hear anything. | |

| I am actually using it to glue decorations back together. I got some of those clay pots or whatever for my cichlids and I broke a chunk off of one so I siliconed it back together. And I put a little bead around the rough edge so the fish dont cut themselves (I dont really know if its necessary but I did it anyway). Thanks again for all the comments and answers. I hope to get some pics posted of my fish and aquariums soon so be checking the show and tell. Hopefully I figure it all out. lol | |

| Coral putty would probably hold much better. |

| Since everyone says don't use GE II than I guess use GE I.Even know I use both and never had a problem with either one.So majority rules. | |

| I siliconed it last night so I figure ill let it dry til tomorrow then tomorrow ill let it soak then Ill put them in my cichlid tanks and see what happens. Ive read where some people let the clay pots soak and some people have just rinsed them off. I plan on soaking mine just to be sure they are clean enough. | |

| If the silicone does not hold your next best bet would be the coral putty or coral epoxy. |
