Was just wondering if I should have more flow in my tank. I run a mag 12 return pump from my sump. I have two wave makers rated at 1320 gph. out

well the water volume turns about 9 times an hour at 1200gph. If am correct. Some of the things i have read and heard are you would want a turn around of 7 to 10 times the tank volume. 10-20 seems really high. I would like to have SPS, LPS corals. I want to make sure I have all the Equipment I need.

if i could of gotten the BIG one in my tank when i reaquascaped i would of been happy. my sixline is eating the baby ones so its not getting any worse. i only go to the fishstore by my house, they dont have a huge assortment but they allways have different fish. he goes to the breeder about 3 times a week. how much do you want for that overflow box and pump?

I need to go buy more salt so I do a water change. I know that will help lower Nitrates.

ok flow from your return pump should be in teh neighborhood of 3 to 5x turnover of total volumne of water, while in tank folw turnover really depends on livestock kept but if it is FO or FOWLR i would say at least 7x turnover from powerheads.

i run a mag 7 on my 90 for return and i have 2 koralia 4's (1200GPH each) in tank, i am doing this because i have some sps, lps, and softies in my tank.

depends really on what you plan to keep in it, if you for wxample a fo tank requires less flow than a nem and softy tank, an sps dominate tank requires teh most flow

i would say go with 7x turnover in your 55 for a softy tank, you could just get a couple of maxijet 1200'ss for it and be fine. make sure you cover the intakes on the PH's with foam)

Then with flow from my return pump and wave makers I should be fine?? I feel I should have more flow. Maybe because I am always looking at tanks larger than mine.

no what i am saying is 7x turnover in tank from powerheads alone (minimum) is what was quoted to my at a couple of LFS's. this does NOT count the 3 to 5x turnover from teh return pump. if you are going to keep sps then more flow would be required, i have softy, sps, and 1 lps and i have 2 koralia 4's which each deliver 1200 gph flow and this is in a 90 although i could go with less.
